"you can't blame PAL for the terrible state of Indian television."
I don't think he was, but out of interest is Indian TV in a terrible state?
Oh and it was interesting to learn that BBC, the last bastion of non
commercial broadcasting, show coke commercials in Asia- I never knew that.
Is it all large corporates who advertise?

Rob,
I reckon what might cause this is a broadcasting system full of badly
maintained, multi-sourced (ntsc and pal), cheap and nasty, and probably
over-priced equipment, broadcasting to a totally un-sophisticated market.
Have you ever seen the amount of really low quality NTSC material that
floods through Third World countries' TV stations?
You must have, you've lived in Turkey, haven't you? I lost a guy to Turkey
last year, in terms of quality, it's probably as far as we Western
'colorists' would want to go, but, let's face it, you can't blame PAL for
the terrible state of Indian television.
Adria Seery.

spent most of my life in NTSC countries. here in PAL land (India) i
did the color for a Coke commercial last Friday.
Saw it on the air last night, coincidentally on two different
channels within 5 minutes of each other: BBC World News Asia
and then on MTV India. First airing showed fleshtones oh, about 3-4
degrees toward yellow. Second airing (MTV) showed
fleshtones right on the money. What would cause this in a system
without phase control?
