Varifocals they are called in the UK then.   a swing of 8 degrees!    
that's not a small difference.

this is the second time I've heard (Phil M. the first) that it takes  
a couple of tries to get it right.

Optician ?= optometrist ?= ophthalmologist

I have trouble looking down and seeing anything, much less my  
meters.   Saw The Meters at Fillmore East in
1967.   They had great vision.
