This is retarded. I'm not a huge fan of super 16 but disallowing
acquisition based upon theoretical noise issues makes no sense. Do they
disallow shooting with high gain settings on HD cameras as well? Are
they disallowing material acquired with all of the HDV cameras? Or the
HVX200? Or maybe they should accept only footage shot outdoors on bright
but overcast days at specified hours with minimal action or annoying
details. Maybe only Ken Burns style documentaries should be accepted....
Objecting to noisy material is fine. Objecting to acquisition media is
prejudicial.
As for "the general lack of HD Noise reduction technology in Telecine
suites." that's the way it should be. Noise reduction should happen in
post only when deemed necessary. Especially as it works better as a post
process rather than in real-time.
